Rupak Nag

Rupak works with clients ranging from individuals and emerging companies to multi-national corporations in obtaining patent protection and managing their intellectual property portfolios in the U.S. and in foreign jurisdictions.  He has prepared and prosecuted patent applications in a wide variety of technology areas.  The majority of his work has been in the area of computer software and networking.  Specific fields include volumetric computing (manipulation and presentation of 3-D data), human-computer interaction (HCI) design, DRM applications, online advertising systems and digital ad management, anti-malware and behavior monitoring systems, data leakage prevention applications, financial systems (including smart card payment models), healthcare data networks and systems (including biometric and medical data management), Java virtual machines, network security, multi-dimensional database architectures, mobile device operating system and graphic subsystems, and VSAM applications.  Other technology areas include audio engineering, digital display interfaces, all aspects of wager gaming machines and gaming networks, cable modems and networks, and RFID technologies. 

Rupak's education includes an Undergraduate Degree (B.S. in Computer Engineering) from Columbia University and a Law Degree from Fordham University School of Law.

Rupak has also counseled clients on patent strategies for protecting critical technology and has responded to assertions of patent infringement by providing opinions of counsel.  He has also provided written and oral opinions concerning validity and enforceability of U.S. patents.  Before practicing patent prosecution, Rupak worked in patent and trade secret litigation in federal and state courts. 

Before entering law, Rupak worked as an IT systems analyst, software engineer, and database designer where he focused on software for managing fixed-income trading at an investment bank.  During his time outside of work, Rupak enjoys biking, writing screenplays, and mediating minor disputes among his three children.  He has been a registered U.S. patent practitioner and member of the State Bar of California since 1995 and a member of the State Bar of Minnesota since 2006.
